Birthday 39
Jun 18, 09:46 PMIt’s one of those numbers where you just know that people are looking at you and thinking is she really 39 or is she really 40 and just saying that she’s 39.
Had a pretty good day. All of the people in my class signed a card for me and sang happy birthday. They even brought cupcakes. It was very embarrassing and kind of surreal. I’d only known these people for 7 days at that point. They had remembered my birthday from this game that we had played the week before in which we had to organize ourselves by birthday without speaking. But that just seems to be the Montessori way. There are all kinds of community building aspects to the Montessori Method.
Chris took me out to dinner at a place called Kenny and Ziggy’s. It’s a New York Style deli and it was fabulous. I had an open faced Rueben that was so large that I had it for dinner the next night and lunch the day after that. After dinner we headed back to the room to open some really cool presents and do some homework. I got the coolest little bowl for jewelry that is decorated with a Dalek saying, “Exterminate.” Also, a great book about the weather and a much compressed DVD set of Farscape. He also gave me a great necklace and a cool coffee cup from Intigensia Coffee. I made out quite well.
Speaking of coffee we have been exploring the coffee scene in Houston. I found a site that lists the “top 10” coffee places in Houston. We’ve tried three of them and another one that wasn’t on the top 10 and rightfully so. So far my favorite is Catalina, then Inversion and finally Antidote. Antidote had great refrigerated food from another coffee shop called Black Hole coffee. We went to Black Hole and tried their coffee. It was pretty awful but their pimento cheese is so awesome that I forgive them for the bad coffee. I won’t get coffee there again but I will go back for the food.

I’m glad you had a good birthday but am sad I couldn’t celebrate it with you. As you know, your gift from me is still in the preparation stage, but I hope it will be worth waiting for. Wish I’d thought of the pimiento cheese! Yum – I love that when it’s good
