Reading more lately

I tend to save my reading for the Summer months because I have a tendency to read a book and do nothing else until I am finished. But lately I have been reading more. Mostly YA but they are still books.

So far, as far as I can remember, this is why I’ve read this year.

Moon Palace – I enjoyed it.

The Always War (YA) – I enjoyed it too but it was written very simply.

The Hunger Games trilogy (YA)- I found the story revoting but the writing in the first book left much to be desired.

Torn (YA) – It’s the fourth in a series. It was good because I wanted to know what was going to happen but I’m not convinced that it was good on it’s merit.

Knit One, Kill Two – I enjoyed the story but the editor should be fired and never allowed to work in the industry again. I mean seriously. One of the lines was, “I rushed to the yard as the sounds of growling reached my eyes.” Really?

Among the Hidden (YA) – that was re-read because I read it to my students last week following their long days of standardized torture testing. They enjoyed it and were surprised to find that you can, in fact, read a chapter book in two afternoons. Some of them just refuse to try to read anything for pleasure at all. (This is a good series.)

I’ve also read several magazines and when I say read, I’ve only just recently allowed myself to skip articles that I am not interested. I used to feel obligated to read each article cover to cover.

P.S. I did not finish my badge. I did watch the movie but that’s as far as I got. Since it was a French movie I plan to make crepes soon. I do not feel that I can tackle anything more complicated than that currently. I’m exhausted.

It’s not as impressive in writing as it was in my head. Oh well. It’s still more than I will usually allow myself this time of year. Five weeks of the school remain but who’s counting.
