The Things We "Know"

Jul 18, 07:27 PM

We were playing a game Friday night – Chris, Jaylen and I – and things were not going my way. I kept rolling low numbers and that is bad in this game. Quite unbecomingly I said a “bad” word. I got lots of mean looks and said, “I guess I’ll need to wash my mouth out with soap later.” Jaylen wanted to know if I had ever had my mouth washed out with soap because he knew that grandma had washed his cousin Drake’s mouth out with soap once.

I informed him that I had, by his grandma, because I have a potty mouth on occasion. I told him that his Uncle Chris has also had his mouth washed out with soap.

“Uncle Chris? Has grandma put soap in your mouth?”

“What?! No. My mother did.”

“Wait…wait! Does everyone know this?”

___________

He was totally shocked that this wasn’t just a grandma thing and that other people in other families wash kids’ mouths out with soap too.

  1. Somehow I’m thinking “A Christmas Story”. Must be the Lifebuoy that makes Chris wear glasses. Two words – “Joan Crawford”.

  2. Wire hangers are so scary.

  3. And I just got a tiny taste of it. I hate to think of what might have happened if I’d bitten off a big chunk and chewed on it for a while…

  4. Wait a minute here – I’m the one who was traumatized! You laughed at me! You and your brother – laughed at me. Almost as hard as you laughed when I tried to shoot you with rubber bands to show it wasn’t a nice thing to do. OMG, I’m even more traumatized now. Thanks a lot, Donnell, for reminding me. Bill & Chris: I plan to look sternly at you when next we meet, so consider yourselves forewarned.
DAMN! I’m really upset now. I am going to have to find that wire coat hanger I saved to brandish at Arlo.
