Sock

I’ve finished it. Here it is. I’ll start the next one eventually.
I was able to finish for two reasons. One, Jean helped me via a few e-mails, a few conversations on the phone and the very generous gift of two books on sock making that had very clear pictures and directions. Two, I let go of the fear of totally messing up and decided that I could just start over again if I had to do so.
It is not a perfect sock. There are several places where I knit instead of purled and vice versa. Also, the toe seems messed up and those holes on the side of the heel that you are supposed to twist the yarn in such a way as to avoid. Well, I only seem to have done that properly on one side.
But, six months later, I have made one sock. The funny thing is that I really am going to make the other one.
Thank you for helping me Jean. I really could not have done it without you.

My secret to getting rid of those holes around the heel? Same as Ann Budd’s: I use some yarn & a needle after the sock is finished. As for the knit instead of purl: as with quilting, if you do it three times it’s a design feature.
Congratulations on finishing your first sock, Donnell. I was 61 when I completed mine.
