T.S. Spivet

I recently finished this book… The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet by Reif Larsen. I found it immensely enjoyable. I loved all of the drawings and sidebars. The story is from the point of view of a 13 year old boy who has thus far grown up in Montana. He draws lots of maps and technical drawings. He has an adventure. I definitely recommend it.
I have two complaints about the book:
- The first one is that about halfway through the book there are many, many pages dedicated to entire other story that, while very interesting, does not really contribute as much as one would hope from something that fills so many pages. (Besides, that story doesn’t actually answer the burning question that Spivet is looking to answer by reading the story. It cuts off.)
- The other complaint is that the novel ends very abruptly. It’s a tidy package and is an adequate wrap up but it left me wanting to know more and reeling from the sudden end.

On a totally different subject… Chris and I have been watching So You Think You Can Dance. I like to watch people dance. I’m not even the slightest bit good at dancing but I appreciate watching others who are good at it. I am rooting for Evan and Randi. The show is down to 14 dancers now. I’ve never watched it before so I’m not sure if the couples will continue to dance as couples for the remainder of the the episodes but if they do then those are the two I want to win. They are very good and very spunky. (The only drawback to the show is that it airs on Fox. I have a problem with the Fox network, so I am compromising my morals to watch the show. But hey, it’s dancing and I don’t watch the commercials so maybe it’s ok.)
